Democrats For Life of America Proud to Endorse Collin Peterson for Re-Election

WASHINGTON, DC –Democrats For Life of America (DFLA) has announced its proud endorsement of Collin Peterson (MN-07) for re-election. The organization cited his active leadership in the U.S. Congress and his longstanding independent voice for putting the good of the people in his district first.

“Congressman Peterson has been a solid and reliable pro-life vote,” said Kristen Day, executive director of DFLA. “Furthermore, he has done a tremendous job establishing himself as a representative of his district and not the Washington establishment. The consistents of the 7th Congressional District can be assured that he puts them first with each and every vote.”

As Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, he consistently protected the farms in his district and around the nation crafting the 2008 Farm Bill and a coalition to pass it. He has also had an established record of working across party lines for the good of the people. He proved his ability to put the people above partisanship.

“The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) should really be honest about their goals – to elect Republicans,” said Day. “The Constituents of the 7th Congressional District of Minnesota should judge Congressman Peterson on his record, not on the skewed opinion of the NRTL who clearly values Republican votes over legislative leaders.”

According to Open Secrets, the National Right to Life Committee has not supported Democratic candidates since 2010 when they spent $3,204 to support Democratic candidates, which dwarfed the $2.1 million spent for Republican candidates and $22,860 spent against Democratic candidates.

“Pro-life voters need to rally behind Congressman Peterson and trust him and his record.,” said Day. “Without his valued voice within the Democrat Caucus, it silences us in the Pro-Life movement collectively.”

Washington DC, December 16, 2019 – Democrats For Life of America (DFLA) commends the passage by Congress of a guarantee of 12 weeks of paid family leave for federal workers as part of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.

“This is an excellent step forward in ensuring a whole-life culture in our country,” said Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats For Life. “The United States is currently one of only a handful of nations that do not ensure paid family leave by law.”

The existing family leave law, the 1993 Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), signed into law by President Bill Clinton, guarantees workers only unpaid family leave (up to 12 weeks) after the birth of a child. The new law will guarantee paid leave for the roughly 2 million workers employed by the federal government nationwide.

“The time off under the FMLA was only a first step,” said Day. “This bill, which is long overdue, will help working men and women during a critical time with their newborn by providing financial security to focus on this new precious life.”

DFLA, the leading voice for the 21 million Americans who identify as Democrats and pro-life, has supported several proposals in Congress that would extend paid leave further to working families in private industry, including a proposal by Rep. Rosa DeLaura (D-CT) and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). DFLA is reviewing a bipartisan bill by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). and a proposal by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). Ivanka Trump has also stated that she views paid family leave as a priority and a six-week paid leave proposal was included in President Trump’s budget.

“It is encouraging to see efforts and proposals from both sides of the aisle to provide more support to new parents,” said Day “Paid leave will impact millions of families across the nation, and help build up a culture of life. We urge Congress to continue to push forward and provide this benefit to millions of Americans who work in the private sector.”

Abortion Litmus Test by the Democratic Attorneys General Association out of Sync with Winning Elections

Posted in Press Releases

On the eve of Governor John Bel Edwards’ win in Louisiana, which proves the ability of a pro-life Democrat to win in red states, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) has sold out to the abortion industry by imposing a litmus test for Democratic Candidates.

Candidates like John Bel Edwards, an exemplary Democrat in areas of human service needs, equality, and diversity, would not be endorsed! Governor Edwards did not run from his pro-life position; he embraced it and was proud to promote a whole life agenda to protect and support human lives from “womb to tomb.”   This was a source of strength for his campaign.

Any abortion rights candidate would have lost.

We encourage DAGA to reconsider this shortsighted and discriminatory policy and embrace a big tent policy of inclusion if Democrats are to win throughout the country.

Pro-Life Democrats to Rally in Atlanta Ahead of November 20, 2019 Debate

Posted in Press Releases

Washington, DC, November 15, 2019 – Democrats For Life of America (DFLA)Pro-Life San Francisco, Georgia Life Alliance, and the Pro-Life Democratic Candidate PAC are holding a rally in Atlanta before the Democratic presidential debate to advocate for inclusion of pro-life Democrats in the party.
"Statistics state that one-in-three Democrats are pro-life. We have an incredible opportunity to represent Democrats who believe in the sanctity of life to the Democratic presidential candidates," said DFL of Georgia Chapter Coordinator Reverend Harriet Bradley. "The candidates are largely listening to the abortion extremist’s voice and ignoring the concerns of the pro-life voting bloc. We do have a voice. Our vote matters, and our vote should count. We will be silent no more!!”
The rally gathers pro-life advocates from Atlanta and both local and national speakers to assert that the Democratic Party is stronger when it is inclusive. Furthermore, there is a pro-life Democratic voting bloc that is being ignored, which could result in millions of voters staying home rather than voting for candidates who continue to advocate for a platform that celebrates abortion.
“The Democratic Party needs pro-life Democrats because the party is at risk of handing over a winnable election to Republicans because of their extreme abortion plank,” said Jacob Lupfer, who runs strategy and communications firm The Relay Group, which consults for the Pro-Life Democratic Candidate PAC. “Moderation on the life issue could win over voters who are concerned about President Trump's character and conduct in office.”
Also leading the charge for inclusion of pro-life voters is “left-wing pro-lifer” Terrisa Bukovianc. Bukovianc, who leads Pro-Life San Francisco, engages in robust pro-life advocacy and coalition work in California’s most liberal city. Bukovianc is a national leader in fighting against fetal-tissue harvesting for medical research, a grizzly agenda that demands and consumes taxpayer-financed fetal remains.
“What disturbs me almost as much as live human fetal dismemberment is the fact that we Democrats, the most progressive party in the nation, and the leader in global progressive thought and policy, are allowing the Trump Administration to hold the moral high ground on this issue,” said Bukovianc. “The majority of Democrats want to see elective late-term abortion more restricted than it is today, and we demand representation. Abortion extremism is not progress.”
DFLA is also supporting the goals of the Pro-Life Democratic Candidate PAC to protest the party’s “extreme abortion plank at every step of the 2020 election: the nominating contest, delegate selection, the DNC platform, the convention in Milwaukee, the general election campaign, and the Electoral College.”
“The candidates who qualified for this debate are not seeking the support of millions of Democratic voters who would like to see abortion less necessary and less common,” said Kristen Day, the executive director of Democrats for Life of America. She added, “I am proud of the DFLA members who are speaking up and voicing their concerns about the lack of diversity in the party when it comes to views on abortion.”
Georgia is an active pro-life state with significant legal protections for women and unborn children, including an informed-consent law, a parental-involvement requirement for minors considering abortions, and an ultrasound mandate. The state recently passed a law to ban abortion after six weeks.
“The Georgia Democratic Party has been radicalized by extremist leadership from a former Planned Parenthood staffer who enforces a religious support for abortion up until and after birth. These views are out of touch with many Democrats, even in the General Assembly, who support the right to life,” said Joshua Edmonds, the executive director of Georgia Life Alliance. “With the party now targeting pro-life Democrats in next year’s election, it is time for pro-life Democrats in Georgia to take their party back.”
