We strongly condemn any attempt to remove the Hyde Amendment from the FY 2022 Federal Budget.
The African American Church has a long history of fighting for human rights. From our right to vote, buy homes, own businesses, and go to school to living free from police brutality, we have pursued these rights because they are due to us. We haven’t just fought for our “rights” in America; we have also fought to be seen as human and made in the image of God.
This fight for our humanity still goes on today — and includes our children in the womb and their mothers.
Simply put, with the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, the federal government would fund the elimination of African American children — our future.
Taxpayer dollars would fund eugenics rather than meet the needs of African American women and their children.
As Christian leaders, as humans, as mothers and fathers, we demand our government save the Hyde Amendment. We have fought too long for the protection of our humanity to allow the federal government to institute racist and morally abhorrent policies that harm us.
We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves (Proverbs 31).
Protecting the lives of African American women and children is our goal. Attacking our unborn, our mothers, our fathers, the African American family, is attacking the Image of God Himself. We urge our leaders to enhance, protect, and preserve life, not end it.
Our position against public funding of abortion is mainstream and science-based.
The majority of Americans — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents — stand with us.
We urge you not to turn back the clock on the progress we have made as a people. Support African American mothers and children in America. You should fund adoption, pregnancy resource centers, and programs that protect humanity for all our families.
We strongly condemn any attempt to remove the Hyde Amendment from the FY 2022 Federal Budget. We have fought too long and too hard to have our human rights undermined and unrecognized once again.
